# Coverage and data

What the map data covers, how fresh it is and how to check.

## What's covered

Roads and places cover the Philippines. Routing is for cars, on drivable roads.

## Where the data comes from

The data comes from OpenStreetMap, which volunteers keep up to date. Coverage and detail vary by area, and a place or a road can be missing or out of date. Fixes made in OpenStreetMap reach the API when the data is next updated.

## How fresh the data is

The data is a snapshot, not a live feed. `sources[].data_date` in [`GET /v2/info`](../reference/info.md) gives its date.

## How to check a location

`coverage.bbox` in `GET /v2/info` is a rough box that can be much larger than the area really covered, because long ferry routes stretch it. Treat it as a coarse check. A point outside it fails with `422 out_of_coverage`.

Whether a route succeeds is the real test. If a point has no road nearby, you get `422 point_not_snapped`.

See [Known limits](known-limits.md) for what the routing doesn't model.
