Coverage and data

What the map data covers, how fresh it is and how to check.

/docs/concepts/coverage.md

What's covered

Roads and places cover the Philippines. Routing is for cars, on drivable roads.

Where the data comes from

The data comes from OpenStreetMap, which volunteers keep up to date. Coverage and detail vary by area, and a place or a road can be missing or out of date. Fixes made in OpenStreetMap reach the API when the data is next updated.

How fresh the data is

The data is a snapshot, not a live feed. sources[].data_date in GET /v2/info gives its date.

How to check a location

coverage.bbox in GET /v2/info is a rough box that can be much larger than the area really covered, because long ferry routes stretch it. Treat it as a coarse check. A point outside it fails with 422 out_of_coverage.

Whether a route succeeds is the real test. If a point has no road nearby, you get 422 point_not_snapped.

See Known limits for what the routing doesn't model.
